Rain, humidity, curls, and the Holy Spirit

I grew up a red-headed, freckle-faced, curly-haired girl in Memphis, Tennessee, so I’m no stranger to humidity.  But it wasn’t in Memphis that this particular thought crossed my mind.  I was sitting on the porch at a dear friend’s house in Waco, Texas.  My husband and I were dropping our oldest child off  for freshman orientation at Baylor University (Sic em Bears!)  For those of you who don’t know, we currently live in New Hampshire – 1626 miles away!  Dropping a child off at college thousands of miles from home left me reflecting on so many different things- one of which was the beauty of being able to trust God to orchestrate my life and my children’s lives.   It was in this mind-set that the following idea unfolded.

A steady rain was falling down.  Humidity saturated the air.  And a comical, yet accurate, illustration entered my mind!  The Holy Spirit and humidity may have more in common than you imagine!

Think about it for a minute.  As humidity fills the air, we may not see it, but it changes the air quality around us.  It immediately impacts us and changes how our body reacts to the environment.  This is especially true for those of us who consider ourselves curly-haired girls!   What was once flat becomes full, even unrestrained – like it can’t hold back from bursting into all it was meant to be.  Curls explode!!  Some curls are refined and beautiful, others are in need of serious treatment to contain that frizz that breaks forth – but the curls are FULL, nonetheless!

Aren’t we like that in the presence of the Holy Spirit?? When the Holy Spirit lives in us, we may not SEE His presence, but oh how He changes us!! What was once flat is suddenly made FULL – still in need of “training”, but released to its fullest potential because the Spirit Himself poured out on and around us!  And once we’ve lived a moment in His presence, we will never be the same!

Some days I may attempt to straighten my hair (and perhaps appear a little more like everyone else, lol.) But I’m learning that living life as a curly-haired girl is a great adventure with God!! As ladies, I think sometimes we too need to be reminded that we were made for a life of passion, purpose, and adventure!! Life with God may not always be easy, but it is always FULL!!!

This site is intended to share with you insights to living life fully in love with Jesus and allowing the Holy Spirit to radically impact our daily life.   It will have a little bit of everything  – some blogs, some devotionals, some studies, and some challenges to complete.  I’ll try to be as real with you as I can, showing you my own struggles and triumphs along the way.  Hopefully through it all, you will be inspired and encouraged to seek His presence and His Spirit day-by-day and moment-by-moment.  When you do, life will never be the same!

Let’s step out in the rain together and live life as “curly-haired girls.”

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
